Audio production for NIKE

Lately, we’ve been busy working on the audio production for a Nike Running video trailer.

Nike and Weibo (equivalent to chinese Twitter) are working on the new “Lunar Run” campaign and will upload the video trailer in a couple of days on their Nike Running blog : http://weibo.com/nikerunning.

We made all the sound design, Foley, voice-over recording, sound editing and sound mixing on this trailer. We’re also working on all the director’s cut audio production : original music composing, music mixing, Foley, sound effects, sound design, sound editing, voice-over casting – recording – editing, final sound mixing.

Nike Lunar Run

For this trailer, a few Chinese runners explain why they are running : what’s their motivations.

This short movie trailer will introduce a few documentaries, coming in a couple of weeks. Nike’s going to interview some young Chinese runners in different Chinese cities.

New field recording equipments at Simply Sound !

With our numerous past field recording projects (such as a documentary in China for France Television TV channel, the Shanghai Disney World Ressort Groundbreaking ceremony, the Hainan Rendez-Vous event coverage, etc.)  or even the upcoming Cannes Film Festival where we’re flying in a couple of day for L’Oreal – following their Chinese and International muse to do interviews – we decided that it is the good time for us to equipped our studio and crew with some great field recording gears :

- 1*MIX PRE SOUND DEVICE 2 Channels Portable Preamplifier and audio Field Mixer,

- 1*RODE NTG 2 condenser shotgun microphone,

- 1*ZOOM H4N Digital audio recorder with 2 microphones and 2 phantom power XLR inputs,

- 1* SENNHEISER EW112 PG3 complete audio UHF system (omnidirectional tie mic)

- 1*RODE High grade professional boom pole 3 meters with equipments

Recording for Shanghai Disney Resort Ceremony

Last month, The Walt Disney Company made history when they officially broke ground on the Shanghai Disney Resort.

The ceremony featured Mickey Mouse dressed in a traditional Chinese costume, a 50-voice Shanghai children’s choir, a female soloist singing in Mandarin and traditional Chinese drum music.

After the entertainment, President and CEO of The Walt Disney Company Bob Iger and Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Tom Staggs were joined by Shanghai Party Secretary Yu Zhengsheng and Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng to officially break ground on the project.

Our sound engineers and assistant had the pleasure and the great responsibility to take care of the whole event and press conference sound catching, not only for the official film crew partners and The Walt Disney Company, but also for all the TV channels present here to cover the event (around 30 cameras and International TV channels).

Our other task was to record a private interview with the President and CEO of The Walt Disney Company : Bob Iger !

It was a great opportunity to work with US sound engineers during the live performance, and compare the different ideas, work methods, and material capacities we have between Chinese and American market.

We do Field Recording

Field recording is the term used for any recording produced outside of a recording studio.

Basically, field recordings can be either of two varieties : recording of natural sounds, originally employed as a documentary adjunct to research work in the field and foley work for film. With the availability of high-quality portable recording equipment, it has subsequently become an evocative art in itself. Both processed and natural phonographic recordings are available.

Field recording can also refer to on-site recordings of interviews, musicians, speech, live performance, press conference, etc.

Alex and Gaetan @ Hainan Rendez-Vous recording some Jet's motor sound

At Simply Sound, we work with many video and video games companies, providing field recording for different kind of projects : recording interviews for corporate movies, doing event coverage by catching the live mixing board output – for speech, music background, live performance, etc. (we generally bring our digital recorder and do our own mix on the mixing board for the recording), recording natural and human sounds for films and video games (like Jet motors sounds, car sounds, etc.).

Basically, we provide one sound engineer with his assistant and their own equipments to catch the better sound possible for your project.

Sound recording @ “Hainan Rendez-Vous”

As you probably saw on our last photo gallery, we were on shoot last week and the week before with “Hainan Rendez-Vous” official video supplier.

We were in charge of all the sound part, field recording for interviews, background / ambiance sound recording, live sound catching (during the different events, parties, gala dinners) and of course, the sound post-production.

That was the opportunity to travel a little bit more in China, meet people from all around the world and work on prestigious brand corporate movies, such as Chopard, Lacoste, Martell, Airbus, Eurocopter, Ferrari, etc.
